چکیده

Cost estimation is an important aspect of the management of software development projects. Most cost estimation models require an estimate of the size of the program to be developed. Accurate size estimation is thus critically important. This study relates the size of small Pascal programs to information available at successive stages in their development. As might be expected, increasingly accurate size estimates are possible as more information becomes available. Not enough is known after the speciication phase to permit accurate estimation. Once the high level design of the program is complete, simple models give quite accurate estimates, even over a range of program sizes and applications. Extra information provided in detailed design allows still better estimates to be made. The best predictions are based on a weighted count of the number of distinct variables used in the program.

Size Estimation for C Programs with Different Applications

Cost estimation is an important aspect of the management of software development projects. Most cost estimation models require an estimate of the size of the program to be developed. Accurate size estimation is thus critically important. Earlier work has shown that weighted counts of conceptually unique variables (where each variable is weighted by the number of functions in which it is referen...

Using Syntax to Improve Word Prediction in a Programming Environment

Input via the keyboard can be slow and tedious for many computer users, but the problem is particularly severe for those with motor disabilities. Strategies that reduce the number of keystrokes required can help limit the problems these users face. In a programming enviroment, word prediction has emerged as a highly successful strategy for saving keystrokes. The use of statistical measures such...

Directly Executed Language (DEL) architectures are derived from idealized representations of high-level languages. DEL architectures show dramatic reduction in the number of instructions and memory references executed when compared to traditional architectures, offering the potential for designing highly cost-effective DEL processors. This report explains the design considerations for the data ...

Optimal Non-Parametric Prediction Intervals for Order Statistics with Random Sample Size

‎ In many experiments, such as biology and quality control problems, sample size cannot always be considered as a constant value. Therefore, the problem of predicting future data when the sample size is an integer-valued random variable can be an important issue. This paper describes the prediction problem of future order statistics based on upper and lower records. Two different cases for the ...
